Definition

A Hatch is a hinged or removable cover in a floor or roof which permits ventilation or the passage of persons or objects.

Purpose

Hatches are used to provide access to otherwise inaccessible areas, such as attics, crawl spaces, and roof areas. They also serve as ventilation openings, allowing air to flow into spaces that need it, and can be used in emergency exits.
