Grounding

Definition

The act or process of making an electrical connection with the earth. A large conductive body (as the earth) used as a common return for an electric circuit.

Purpose

Grounding provides a safe path for electrical currents to dissipate into the earth, protecting people and equipment from electric shocks and damage.
