Laminated Glass

Definition

A glazing material consisting of outer layers of glass laminated to, and encasing, an inner layer of transparent plastic.

Purpose

Laminated glass is designed for safety and security. The inner layer of plastic holds the glass together if it breaks, preventing shattering and reducing the risk of injury. It also provides sound insulation and UV protection.

Examples of Use

• Automotive windshields: Laminated glass is standard in car windshields to protect passengers from flying glass in the event of an accident.
